RACES.

In the world, there are more commonly known races, such as elves, half elves and humans. They will get their own entry eventually.

✦ Arachnikin

Arachnikin are considered monsters in the land of Casanova. They are believed to be the descendants of the spider Queen Lai'otha.

Their size is around that of a human, and they have four arms. Two on their shoulders, two on their torso. They also have four to six eyes and sharp fangs.

They hatch in clusters of eggs. A clutch is typically ten to fifteen eggs and usually only five to seven of them survive.

As they are considered monsters, they are often hunted and killed for safety.

They age similarly to humans, except with much longer lifespans. The oldest recorded Arachnikin was presumed to be over 150 years old, although due to hunting they do not often live past adulthood.

Arachnikin are divided into three variants, Woodland, Cave and Mountain range. The way to identify them are as follows.

Woodland

  • Shorter "fur", often soft to the touch.
  • Short claws and fangs, as they are less built for attacking.
  • Omnivorous diet, they can consume both berries and meat.
  • Appear to be able to communicate and understand the wildlife in the area.
  • Temperament is most friendly of the three, often found in ''packs'' of three or more.
Cave
  • Extremely short and coarse "fur."
  • Long claws and fangs, built for traversing cliff faces and digging through rocks.
  • Extremely dangerous, they have a strong venom that can kill within the hour. Very painful and there is no known cure for it.
  • Carnivorous.
  • Can see in the dark extremely well, but are blinded by any form of light.
  • Very aggressive, prefer to travel alone.
Mountain
  • Long "fur", often with lighter coloration and patterns to blend in with the snow.
  • Immune to any sort of freezing or cold. Can be found swimming in frozen lakes to hunt.
  • Large sharp claws built for hunting and traversing the landscape. Medium sized fangs.
  • Neutral in temperament, prefer to be alone but can be seen in "packs" of two to three. Will not attack unless provoked.
Traits that all Arachnikin share are few.
  • Ability to sense vibrations and "see" sound. This aids in hunting and finding shelter.
  • Cannot speak any language due to lack of a normal mouth or vocal cords. They communicate by various chirping, churring and hissing sounds. Those nature inclined have been able to understand them.
  • They all have multiple limbs and eyes.

✦ Artedrine

Artedrine are a rare people in Casanova. As a people, they're very antisocial and live in one small community, its location is unknown. They are not friendly, anyone who stumbles across their community are never seen again, at least not alive. Their privacy and safety are the most important things to them.

It should be noted that elves should not come near them at any cost, as they are exceptionally aggressive towards them.

They can be identified by a few traits.

  • Their unnatural coloration and patterning.
  • Their large ears and fluffy tails.
  • Their wings.

Due to their ears, they have amazing hearing, being able to hear danger from several miles away. It is unknown what purpose their tails serve, though.

Their wings are usually too small for flight, only being able to serve and use when an Artedrine ages beyond 70, which is unfortunately uncommon. Artedrine over 70 are considered Elders, and are put in charge and worshipped by the people.

Their average lifespan is anywhere between 55-60 years of age, it is extremely uncommon for them to age beyond that. It has been observed that they age the same way as humans do, which makes their age range even more disappointing.

Unfortunately, the race is dwindling. They are so dead set in their ways that survival is becoming a struggle. They aren't open to any form of help and the Elders they do have are dwindling. There are very few, if not none that have left their community.

✦ Phylakas

n. Phylax (Fie-lux)/ pl. Phylakas (Fie-luh-kees)

Known also as "Guardians", "Tree Sentinals", and "Tethered Spirits".

Phylakas are the living embodiment of what pure nature is. When a forest's spirit deems it time, a phylax is born. More often than not, a phylax is tethered to another soul - a soul that needs protecting. Up until they find their tether, a phylax searches aimlessly for them. Once their tether is found, by instinct, they are now theirs to protect at all costs. Phylakas cannot ignore this instinct.

Phylakas differ in appearance based on many things; which type of forest they were born from, what they may wish to look like, or how their tethers influence their appearances. Phylakas are most likely to keep the appearance of which their very first tether influenced. Phylakas have a seasonal cycle, as do trees. This, once again, depends on the forest they were born from.

✦ Werewolves and werepeople

All werepeople serve / worship a natural entity. For example, werewolves may worship the moon and werefoxes may worship the stars. It varies from pack to pack.

In the case of wereolves, there is a phenomena of greater werewolves, they vary greatly from "lessers". They're far stronger and overall more powerful, and they have a third, far more monstrous form. Every full moon they become beasts, covered in fur. They seem to have no mind of their own and just act on violence, guided by the moon. But they're aware this happens. Ascending to become a greater werewolf is a choice that one has to make. It is completely voluntary and lesser werewolves will not be looked down upon for not choosing to ascend. Some lesser werewolves seem to idolize greaters for their power and will sometimes seek them out to travel. What a greater does about this is up to them and not guided by the moon. In order to ascend they must be under a full moon. They do not pray to the moon, but they communicate with it. No words are said, but it's been described as "reading their minds/hearts" and knowing exactly what they want. The moon warns of the cost, that it'll take over their minds every full moon as some sort of payment or tax for being given the power of the moon.

The moon, to an average person is just the thing you see when night falls, but to werewolves they see it as some sort of higher being, some might even call it a God/Goddess. The moons "appearance" and "voice" differs from werewolf to werewolf. Not much is documented on the moon from the werewolves perspective as they seem very private about their devotion to it. Greater werewolves seem more in tune with the moon than lessers.

Frilled Suvaii Salamander

This one is not a race but is mentioned.

Frilled Suvaii (Sue-vie-ee) Salamander

The Frilled Suvaii Salamander is an endangered species found in Casanova.

Their scales vary in color, though are most often seen as shades of muted iridescent blues. Some may range towards a more purple complextion, and others appearing more green depending on their location. In the dark, their scales become dully bioluminescent. Their face, tail, and forearms have frills that fan out when the salamander is angered or feels threatened. They can grow to be up to 45 lbs. The Frilled Suvaii Salamanders eyes are large and white, giving ample sight in the dark. However, the Frilled Suvaii Salamander is rendered blind during the day. Along its spine, there are large spines that are rough to the touch. The lifespan of the Frilled Suvaii Salamander is 35 years.

Habitat | Behavior | Diet

The Frilled Suvaii Salamander live in or around murky or deep bodies of fresh water (though a subspecies of The Frilled Salamander dwell in oceans). They prefer heavily wooded or heavy foliage river banks and lakes to settle in. Due to their large nature, the larger the river or the lake, the better. They appear to be nocturnal, emerging from the water during the evening and returning to the water at dawn to sleep. When approached, the Frilled Suvaii Salander may give a warning hiss and go on it's way. If it feels cornered, targetted, or threatened, it will attack.

The diet of the Frilled Suvaii Salander consists mostly of fish, insects, and frogs. They are not known to seek out heavy meats like chicken, cows, or the like. They seem to have a mostly peskitarian diet.

Venom

The Frilled Suvaii Salander is known best for it's fatal venom. When bit, the venom will first trigger sore and swollen skin around the bite. As the venom travels through the bloodstream, it will induce dizziness, lightheadedness, and nausea that progresses to vomitting. The venom can be treated with an antidote up until this point. Once the blood reaches the brain, the venom attacks the nervous system, resulting in paralysis. Once the paralysis is in effect, the venom is no longer treatable and considered fatal. The venom will cause seizures and eventually brain bleeds until the victim is considered brain dead.
